Tai Chi, Qigong and Standing Meditation
Taught by Mark Johnson:
I first learned the Tai Chi Form from Robert Smith – a student of Prof. Cheng Man-Ching. Then studied and taught with the School of Tai Chi, under the direction of Patrick Watson (also of student of Cheng Man-Ching). For the past 10 years I have been studying with Grand Master Sam Tam. I am teaching his Yang Style Short Form and Standing Meditation (Zhan Zhuang). I am also teaching Soaring Crane Qigong.
Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese martial and healing art. Tai Chi, Qigong, and the Standing Meditation work internally to develop and cultivate the Chi energy. It has been called a moving meditation. It can bring instant benefits by bringing you into the present. “All we have is the present – the past is long gone and we don’t know what the future will bring.” – Grand Master Sam Tam.
Chi can be defined as life force. When it is flowing without obstacle in the body, the mind, body, emotions and spirit are in balance.
Tai Chi emphasizes softness and yielding rather than force.
Other health benefits include improved balance and circlulation and lower blood pressure.
Tai Chi classes with Mark Johnson are open to all and can benefit all, no matter what your physical condition. As long as you can walk Tai Chi will benefit you!
Classes are also available in the South Baltimore/Federal Hill area as well as in the workplace with businesses and nonprofits.
